Writing
During this learning journey the children will learn about some of the more technical elements of writing. Initially they will learn what tenses are and then they will use their knowledge to produce numerous pieces of writing enabling them to practise writing in the past, present and progressive tenses. The children will learn more about writing for different purposes and will learn to select and write in the appropriate tense, depending on the form and purpose of the piece of writing. The children will also learn to spell words containing common suffixes and prefixes accurately, with a particular focus on spelling past and present tense verbs.
Maths
This half term the children will start by learning about fractions. They will learn what a fraction is and what a half, third and quarter is. The children will then be starting their multiplication and division learning journey. In multiplication the children will be learning their 2, 5’s and 10 times tables and how to use this knowledge to problem solve. The children will do this practically and visually. The children will also learn about time. They will learn O’clock and half past and how and the difference in this between night and day.
Science
This term the children will continue their science learning by observing changes across the four seasons. The children will be describing the weather and the changes across the four seasons. They will be describing the weather associated am learning to observe changes across the four seasons and describe the weather associated with each season. They will learn to understand how day length varies depending on the time of year.
Geography
In Geography this half term the children will continue to learn about the Poles. We will be focusing on the South Pole. They will be learning about a small area in a contrasting non-European country. They will learn these through areal photographs and maps. They will learn that the South is a largest and coldest desert and that people can only live there temporarily in science research centres.
History
During this term the children will learn about the life of Ernest Shackleton. They will learn about his achievements and why he is a significant individual. Where we have been learning about chronology, the children will learn where Ernest Shackleton fits in within a chronological framework. The children will revisit comparing aspects of life in different periods.
Art
In this learning journey the children will be learning about sculpture. They will be learning to use sculpture to develop and share ideas, experiences and imagination in the context of exploring 3D art. They will be learning to develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using form and texture.
Computing
In this learning journey the children will be learning how to use technology purposefully to create, store and retrieve digital content. They will also be learning to describe how to behave online in ways that do not upset others and give examples of this.
RE
In this learning journey the children will be learning the importance of belonging. They will look at how they belong to a group and how people belong to different groups. The children will be learning about Judaism and how people belong. They will learn about Shabbat and how Jewish people come together.
RSHE
In this learning journey the children will be learning about the importance of eating fruit and vegetables in their diet and how this contributes to a healthy lifestyle.
